Neck Pain and Headaches

Neck pain and headaches are common concerns that can significantly affect daily life, work, and overall wellbeing. These symptoms may develop gradually or appear suddenly, and can range from mild stiffness to more intense, persistent discomfort.

At SurfEdge Physiotherapy, we see and treat a wide range of musculoskeletal neck pain and neck-related headaches. These often originate from tension or dysfunction in areas like the base of the neck, upper back, shoulders, ribcage, or jaw—pain that can radiate upwards and contribute to ongoing headaches.

There are many contributing factors beyond posture alone. Psychological stress, sleep disturbances, hormonal or chemical imbalances, and even food sensitivities can all play a role in neck pain and headaches. That’s why it’s important to look at the whole picture.

We take a holistic and individualised approach to assessment and treatment, aiming to understand and address the root cause—whether physical, emotional, or lifestyle-related. Our treatment plans are tailored to your specific presentation to help relieve symptoms and support your long-term recovery.

If neck pain or headaches are affecting your life, we're here to help you move better, feel better, and get back to doing what you enjoy.

Symptoms

Following a head or neck injury, you may experience a variety of symptoms, including:

  • Pain or stiffness in the neck, upper back, or head.

  • Difficulty moving your head or neck freely.

  • Tightness in the muscles of the neck and shoulders.

  • Sharp, shooting pains in the neck, head, or arms.

  • A gradual, often one-sided ache at the base of the skull or at the back of the head. This pain can sometimes extend to the temporal region, above the ears, or behind the eyes. Migraines are more likely to affect both sides of the head and may shift sides, unlike cervicogenic headaches, which tend to remain on one side.

  • Difficulty performing your usual physical activities or tasks

We understand how these symptoms can affect your daily life. Our team is here to provide the care and treatment needed to help you recover and regain your mobility.
