Kirstie Tyson

Founder and Principal Physiotherapist

Doctor of Physiotherapy, Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science, APAM

Kirstie Tyson is the Principal Physiotherapist at SurfEdge Sports Physiotherapy and the Club Physiotherapist for Alexandra Headland Surf Life Saving Club, where she supports the club’s elite athletes both on the beach and in the clinic.

With over 15 years immersed in sport as a physiotherapist (and having also been an athlete, coach and official), Kirstie brings deep insight into performance, recovery, and what it takes to stay at the top of your game. She has worked with athletes and performers across dance, acrobatics, sailing, softball, marathon running, triathlon, and cricket, giving her a broad understanding of movement and performance under pressure.

As part of the Surf Life Saving Australia medical team, Kirstie provides physiotherapy services at major events including The Aussies, the Coolangatta Gold, and the Lifesaving World Championships. Locally, she is proud to support Alexandra Headland SLSC’s competitors to perform at their peak through targeted rehabilitation, injury prevention, and ongoing athlete management.

Kirstie’s approach is built on thorough assessment, hands-on treatment, and progressive strength and conditioning. She believes in accurate diagnosis, personalised care, and empowering every individual to recover stronger and move better for the long term.

Her main clinical interests include lower limb injuries, especially ACL rehabilitation and complex knee recovery. She has completed advanced training in concussion management, dry needling, hip and shoulder rehabilitation, sports vision, brain endurance, and strength and conditioning, and has presented her ACL rehabilitation research at national and international conferences.

Outside the clinic, Kirstie is a familiar face at the surf club and around the coast. She enjoys volunteering, swimming, coastal walks, and spending time on the beach with her family and dog.
